A Message from the Executive Director, Sheba Marcus-Bey

Here at East Cleveland Public Library we are coming out of a

busy February that was full of amazing Black History Month

programming that featured Voices in the Valley, Mr. Stephen

Hood as George Washington Carver; Black History monologues

from Danita Harris, Basheer Jones, and more; a jazz concert

with John “J Saxx” Watkins; and more.

Now that we’ve hit March, we don’t plan to slow down – we’ve got more fantastic programming on the way for the East Cleveland community – plays written by breast cancer survivors on March 14; a free gospel concert featuring Bonita Wagner-Johnson on March 21; and another jazz concert, this time with Horns and Things, on March 28. We are pleased to be presenting such diverse educational and entertaining programs to the community.

The East Cleveland Public Library recently held a board retreat on February 27 & 28, 2015. The retreat was facilitated by Cynthia “Cyndee” Landrum, the assistant director of public services at the Oak Park Public Library and PhD candidate at Simmons (Ph.D./MLIP) program in Boston, Massachusetts.

What we learned during the retreat was that as a body, we have shared values that link us to the ultimate purpose to support our Library and its future endeavors. Considering this revelation, the theme of the retreat was “East Cleveland Public Library – The Future Focused Library 2025 and Beyond.”
